No two dance floors are the same.

What is the goal of a dance floor? No one ever actually thinks the end goal of a dance floor is to “hear songs.” It’s so much deeper. It’s about transcending space and time all together.

It’s about having a shared experience that elevates the spirit in such a way that everything evaporates and you’re completely present in the moment. It’s about sharing a collective feeling of freedom, ecstasy, and joy. At the risk of being trite, the goal of the dance floor is love.

Most artists are trying to make people feel something significant in some way or another. Our artistic medium is music. We use music and the uniqueness of the moment to create energy.

Here’s how we make magic happen:

  1. A lot of what they say about “practice makes perfect” is true.

Now, I am not saying we’re perfect. We’re human (and that humanness is something we value as artists).
And while we may not be perfect, we are very, very seasoned. The first ingredient to dance floor magic is, simply put, practice and experience.

  2. Our DJs and musicians have that extra *something* that you only get through good ol’ fashioned repetition and time spent doing the work.

You can’t make it overnight. You can’t replicate it through shortcuts. It’s patience, consistency, and learning by doing.

  3. A solid amount of prep work.

It should go without saying that the DJ and musicians you hire are practicing their craft on a regular basis.
The prep work we’re referring to here is specific to the client.
Every single event is completely unique. Really, truly no two events are the same. Even when we do a wedding two weeks in a row at the same venue with the same planner, even then!, completely unique events.

By the time we go into the ~big day~ (whatever the big day may be) we want to be on the same page as the client in every way possible– everything from understanding their purpose for the event, to their motivations, their preferences, and their style.

Quite honestly, we put a lot of work into understanding clients’ taste so that when the day of the event rolls around, we can do the work we came to do and they can dance the night away.

  4. An artist’s intuition.

This magic ingredient is only made possible when the two prerequisites listed above are present.

This is also the hardest to put into words, but it is the ingredient that makes a space absolutely transcendent. It’s what takes an evening from fun to unforgettable.

True magic occurs on the dance floor when an artist can intuit what a space needs, confidently meet that need, and bring it to the next level.
It involves the combination of depth of knowledge about the music available, confidence to take risks, and the ability to read the audience’s energy.

Ultimately, what we’ve learned throughout our years of experience is that it is the careful balance of technical skill, experience, and human connection that makes a dance floor epic.

We’ve always been aware of music’s power to create something far greater than just a great dance floor, and this is really what we’re tapping into – the beauty of shared experience and emotion that escapes words.
